If anyone else uses your phone or glances at your screen, you can now hide a ChatGPT conversation behind a PIN. But locking isn't encryption, and it doesn't erase what ChatGPT already remembered about you.
You lock a conversation, and it leaves your normal history. Locked chats move to their own "Locked Chats" section, separate from your chat list, pinned chats and search results.
With Memory turned on, the Locked Chats section gets its own memory, shared only among locked chats.
Read this part before you rely on it. Per TechCrunch, locking is not end-to-end encryption and it isn't a separate encrypted vault.
Forgetting your PIN is expensive. OpenAI says resetting a PIN permanently deletes all locked chats, files and other content protected by the previous PIN.
For most people, yes, when a phone or computer is shared: a kid grabbing your device, a partner using the family tablet, a coworker glancing at your screen at the office.
