In a letter on Orkut.com, Büyükkökten criticizes social media's growing reliance on algorithms and AI-generated content.
Büyükkökten created Orkut in 2004 as a side project while he worked at Google.
The pattern is telling. The network he built inside a tech giant reached hundreds of millions of people; the one he tried on his own stayed in the low millions.
His complaint is a familiar one: many people feel big-platform feeds show what an algorithm picks rather than what friends post.
Nobody has confirmed a product name, features, a business model, a team, investors or a date.
