No single sign proves a block, and WhatsApp has no official way to confirm it. The more signs show up together, the likelier it is. If you were blocked, the best move is to respect the person's choice.
On its "Being blocked by someone" page, WhatsApp describes these indicators that you may have been blocked:
Run these in order, without rushing, and note what you find. The goal is to count how many signs show up at the same time.
Every sign has explanations more common than a block, and the Help Center acknowledges that on its pages about read receipts, profile information and last seen.
Check marks are the most-consulted clue, and the most misread. Per WhatsApp's page on read receipts:
