Once this reaches everyone, you can write a message now and have it go out at the right moment, like a birthday text at midnight or a reminder to a group first thing in the morning.
For text, type your message in the chat, tap and hold the send button, and choose a delivery time in the panel that appears.
That makes the feature a good fit for reminders and greetings within the coming days, but not for something planned months out.
Scheduled messages sit in their own section of the chat info screen. From there you can view, manage, and delete anything that has not gone out yet.
There is a rule worth knowing. A scheduled message goes only to people who were already in the group when you scheduled it.
