Fitbit Edge leak: Google band with a screen and 7-day battery

The Fitbit Edge leaked in ads, an FCC filing and retail listings: small screen, GPS, notifications and up to 7 days of battery. Here is what we know so far.

Google hasn’t announced it, but the Fitbit Edge has already shown up almost everywhere. According to 9to5Google, it first slipped out in an accidental marketing leak in August, then appeared in an FCC filing in September, and now it has retail listings. Everything below comes from leaks, not from Google.

What the Fitbit Edge looks like

The images show a traditional fitness band with a small oval screen, two side buttons and a sensor array on the back. 9to5Google says the display reaches closer to the edges than on earlier Fitbit trackers, with watch face shortcuts for heart rate, steps and starting a workout. It also mentions metal strips on the sides, which would be used for ECG readings.

The leaked feature list:

  • Up to 7 days of battery life
  • GPS and an altimeter for elevation tracking
  • Automatic activity recognition
  • Phone notifications on the screen
  • A short app list: Google Maps, YouTube Music, media controls and Find My Phone
  • Bluetooth, no Wi-Fi
  • Works with Android and iOS

9to5Google says it likely charges with the same magnetic charger as the Fitbit Air.

Where it fits in Google’s lineup

Android Authority calls the Edge a middle ground between the Fitbit Air, which skips the screen and the distractions, and the Pixel Watch 5, a full smartwatch. Compared with the Air, the difference is the display with notifications. Compared with the watch, it is a simpler, health-first device that also works with iPhones.

There is some history here too. Google hasn’t released a Fitbit Charge since 2023, and Engadget treats the Edge as a likely replacement. The Charge sold for $129 to $179, according to Android Authority.

Colors borrowed from the Pixel 11

The leaked colors match the Pixel 11 Pro: Obsidian, Olive and Canyon. Android Authority adds that the strap swaps with a pinch mechanism.

Price and date: still guesses

Google hasn’t said what it costs or when it ships. Android Authority estimates $149 to $199, between the $99 Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5. Both it and Engadget expect a launch in time for holiday shopping. Retail listings can contain mistakes, and the final product could differ.

Why it matters

Fitness bands lost ground to smartwatches, and the Charge line has gone three years without a successor. If the Edge is what the leaks suggest, Google gets back an option for people who find a smartwatch too big, too pricey or too much to charge, but who still want to read a message without pulling out their phone. Seven days of battery also tackles the most common complaint about watches: charging nearly every day.
