Apple has confirmed an event called “Pro and Tell” for Wednesday, October 28, at 10 a.m. Pacific (1 p.m. Eastern). It takes place in Los Angeles and is expected to bring a new MacBook Pro, iPad mini and iMac, based on reports from the US press. It’s Apple’s second event this month.

What has Apple actually confirmed?

Not much, which is typical for an invite. The date, time, location and name are official. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s marketing chief, shared the invitation on social media with the line “Can’t wait to pro and tell next week.” The wordplay on “Pro” points straight at the MacBook Pro, and Marques Brownlee summed up the general read as “Macbook Pro update incoming,” according to MacMagazine.

Gizmodo also pointed out that the event icon shows the Apple logo sliding across a screen. The writer ties that to a possible touch feature, but that’s his interpretation, not something Apple has said.

The format may feel familiar. On October 13, in New York, Apple introduced the HomeView, the HomePod mini 2 and a new Apple TV 4K. MacMagazine reports that event didn’t have a traditional live keynote, and the Los Angeles one should follow a similar model. We covered that launch in our Welcome Home recap.

What do the rumors say about the products?

Everything below is rumor and unconfirmed by Apple. The main source is Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, who had already outlined the lineup, as we reported in our story on the touchscreen MacBook Pro. His expected date was October 27, so the official invite landed one day later.

  • 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen: it would be the first touch-enabled MacBook Pro, with a Dynamic Island (the cutout area the iPhone uses for alerts and live activities) and a weight well below today’s models. 9to5Mac says M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are expected. The name “MacBook Ultra” has been floating around among journalists with no identified source, per Gizmodo.
  • iPad mini with an OLED display: a modest redesign with reworked speakers and the front camera in a different spot.
  • iMac and entry 14-inch MacBook Pro: both with the M6 chip and a look similar to the current versions.

Gizmodo also cites unnamed Korean sources claiming LG OLED panels for a 27-inch iMac. The writer himself treats that as a long shot.

How much will it cost, and when does it ship?

Apple hasn’t announced prices. Gizmodo raises a warning worth keeping in mind: today’s memory costs could push final prices up. MacMagazine says the products should reach the market on November 6, but that’s a prediction with no official confirmation.

Should you wait to buy?

If you’re eyeing a MacBook Pro, the wait is short and probably worth it. In a few days you’ll know whether the OLED touchscreen model is real and what it costs, and that changes the math between a discounted current model and the new one. If you need a laptop right now, buying today is fine, but you risk seeing a refreshed version within weeks.

The iPad mini follows similar logic. An OLED screen generally means punchier color and deeper blacks than a standard LCD, so that upgrade is easy to notice. The iMac and entry MacBook Pro with M6 sound more like a chip swap than a redesign, so if you own a recent model you probably gain little from the move.
