The IM6, an electric SUV from IM Motors, the premium brand in the same SAIC group as MG, is headed for MG dealerships in Brazil, with an expected price below R$ 500,000. The top trim makes more than 750 hp, goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds and carries a 400 km (about 249 miles) range rating from Inmetro, Brazil’s testing authority. Canaltech reports that 300 units of the first batch are already reserved.

What is the IM6?

It’s a 4.90 m (about 16 ft) coupe-style electric SUV that was shown to Brazilian buyers at the Festival Interlagos in São Paulo in late August. IM Motors is the luxury division of MG Motor, and the cars will be sold through MG dealers, according to AutoPapo. It is not sold in the US.

The look is sporty, but the tech list is the bigger draw. The dashboard combines a 26.3-inch integrated screen that serves as both instrument cluster and infotainment, plus a second 10.5-inch screen lower down for vehicle controls. The IM6 also has double laminated glass and I-Silent active noise cancellation. AutoPapo adds 20 speakers, four of them in the roof, and an optional armoring package.

What are the specs?

Canaltech says the top version has a 100 kWh battery (kilowatt-hours measure how much energy it stores), an 800-volt electrical architecture, all-wheel drive and two motors, one per axle. The 800 V design is what enables very fast charging, but none of the reports give the charging power or times.

Item Top trim
Power over 750 hp
Torque 81.7 kgfm (about 591 lb-ft)
0 to 100 km/h 3.5 s
Top speed 305 km/h (about 190 mph)
Range (Inmetro) 400 km (about 249 miles)
Battery 100 kWh

Horsepower varies by source: Canaltech says 752 hp, Canal VE says 767 and AutoPapo says 797. Until MG publishes an official spec sheet, “over 750 hp” is the safe way to put it.

The car also has four-wheel steering, with up to 12 degrees at the rear axle, which helps in tight city maneuvers. Canal VE reports a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

The global lineup includes an entry version too, with 295 hp, a rear motor and a 75 kWh battery, per Canaltech. Reports on the Brazilian launch mention a single initial setup, the dual-motor one.

How much does it cost, and when does it arrive?

Canaltech says the price should land below R$ 500,000, but MG hasn’t published an official figure. AutoPapo pointed to an October launch back in August, with prices and reservation terms to follow. Canaltech just says “soon,” with no exact date.

Who are its rivals?

Canaltech names the Zeekr 7X and the BYD Sealion 7. BYD, maker of the Sealion 7, is also preparing news for Brazil, such as the Dolphin G flex hybrid. Both rivals are electric SUVs from Chinese brands, and the IM6 stands out for sports-car performance. The 400 km range works for city driving and short trips, but anyone who regularly covers long highway distances should check the fast-charging network along the route first, as we explain in our guide on whether electric cars are worth it.

Should you wait for the official announcement?

If you’re shopping for a luxury EV in Brazil, yes. Price, the official spec sheet and delivery timing are still open, and those three things decide the purchase. Reserving before then only makes sense if you already know the IM6 fits your budget. For readers outside Brazil, the main takeaway is that Chinese automakers are launching luxury, high-performance EVs in markets beyond the entry-level cars they’re best known for.
