Netflix costs $8.99 a month for Standard with ads, $19.99 for Standard and $26.99 for Premium in the US, according to its help center, checked on October 29, 2026. The Basic plan no longer exists, so the ad-supported plan is now the cheapest way in. Prices can change and taxes may apply, so confirm in your account before you sign up.
Netflix plans and prices in the US
| Plan | Monthly price | Yearly cost | Screens at once | Resolution | Downloads |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard with ads | $8.99 | $107.88 | 2 | 1080p (Full HD) | 2 devices |
| Standard | $19.99 | $239.88 | 2 | 1080p (Full HD) | 2 devices |
| Premium | $26.99 | $323.88 | 4 | 4K (Ultra HD) and HDR | 6 devices |
The yearly column is simple multiplication by twelve, since Netflix bills monthly. Prices went up in March 2026: the three plans used to cost $7.99, $17.99 and $24.99, according to Yahoo Finance.
Netflix extra member prices
Netflix lets you add someone who lives outside your household, for a fee. The help center lists these rules:
- Standard allows 1 extra member.
- Premium allows up to 2 extra members.
- Each extra member costs $7.99 a month with ads or $9.99 without ads.
- The ad-supported plan does not offer extra members.
So Standard plus one ad-free extra member comes to $29.98 a month ($19.99 plus $9.99). Premium with two ad-free extras comes to $46.97. If you are splitting a plan with family or friends who live elsewhere, run that number before deciding.
Which Netflix plan should you pick?
Standard with ads is the plan to start with if you watch alone or with one other person and can live with ad breaks. It has the same Full HD picture and two screens as Standard, and it saves $11 a month, or $132 over a year. The trade-off is the ad breaks.
Standard removes the ads at $19.99. It makes sense if you hate interruptions but do not need 4K, or if you use your plan with one extra member.
Premium costs $7 more than Standard. For that you get 4K with HDR, four screens at once and downloads on six devices. It pays off for a household of three or four people who stream at the same time, or if you own a 4K TV and care about picture quality. For two people on a 1080p TV, it is money you will not notice. At $26.99 for four screens, the per-screen cost is about $6.75.
What the plans cost per month in real situations
Looking at the sticker price alone hides how the plans compare once you count how you actually watch. Here are four common cases using the official US prices:
- One person, one TV, fine with ads: Standard with ads at $8.99 a month, or $107.88 a year.
- A couple that wants no ads: Standard at $19.99 a month, or $239.88 a year. Both of you can stream at the same time, because it allows two screens.
- A family of four that streams at once: Premium at $26.99 is the only plan with four screens. Two separate Standard accounts would cost $39.98.
- Your household plus one relative in another home: Standard at $19.99 plus one ad-free extra member at $9.99, which is $29.98 a month. That is $3 more than Premium, so if more than two people at home also stream together, Premium may be the better use of money, though the extra member rules differ by plan, so check them first.
The gap between the cheapest and the most expensive plan is $18.00 a month, or $216 a year. That is the real price of dropping ads, getting 4K and adding two screens.
How US prices compare with other countries
Netflix sets prices country by country. In Brazil the help center lists R$ 25.90, R$ 51.90 and R$ 71.90 for the same three plans, and in Mexico it lists MXN 139, MXN 269 and MXN 369. The resolution, screens and download limits are identical in all three countries, so the plans themselves are the same and only the price and the extra member fee change.
How to see or change your plan
Your current plan and price are shown in your Netflix account settings. If you get Netflix through a package or add-on from another company, plan prices and extra member eligibility may differ, according to the help center. In that case, check with that provider.
Ways to spend less
Since the price is monthly, you control how many months you pay for. One approach is to subscribe only when a show you want arrives, watch it, and cancel afterward. If you also pay for music or other services, see how Spotify’s Family plan price and rules work before you add up the total.
Streaming prices are moving in other countries too. Netflix raised every plan in Brazil in October 2026, a change that does not affect US accounts. We covered it in the Brazil price increase story.
