BMW has revealed the iX4, an electric coupe-style SUV with up to 428 miles of range. In the US it starts at $66,200, plus a $1,495 destination fee, and it goes on sale in March 2027.

BMW iX4 range, power and 0-60 time

The iX4 is the electric successor to the gas-powered X4 and the third car on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, after the iX3 and the i3. It’s about the same size as the iX3 but a bit lower, at 188.3 inches long, with a drag coefficient of 0.23, according to Electrek.

Both trims are dual-motor and all-wheel drive:

Trim Power Torque 0-60 mph
iX4 50 xDrive about 460 hp 475 lb-ft 4.7 sec
iX4 M60 xDrive 603 hp 645 lb-ft 3.9 sec

The 50 xDrive goes on sale first, with the M60 following shortly after. BMW hasn’t announced M60 pricing.

Battery and charging speed

The battery is about 112 kWh, on an 800-volt architecture that supports charging at up to 400 kW. BMW says you can add up to 184 miles of range in 10 minutes. InsideEVs reports a 10-80% charge takes 21 minutes on the 50 xDrive.

The iX4 also supports bidirectional charging, so it can send power back to a home or the grid, a feature we covered when Tesla opened up Model 3 and Model Y home backup.

The 428-mile figure is BMW’s estimate for the US market. On Europe’s WLTP cycle the company quotes up to 828 km (514 miles), which tends to read more generously than EPA numbers.

Inside the cabin

The dash has a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and a 43-inch Panoramic Vision display across the base of the windshield. A 3D head-up display is optional. The driver-assist system is SAE Level 2, which allows hands-free driving on supported highways at up to 85 mph, with the driver still paying attention.

How much does it cost?

The iX4 50 xDrive costs $4,700 more than the iX3 50 xDrive, according to Electrek. For comparison, the Tesla Model Y Performance starts at $57,990 in the US. Electrek estimates the M60 at roughly $85,000 to $90,000, but that’s the outlet’s projection, not a BMW price.
